Action/Thriller THE BIG UGLY with Cincinnati-area cast and crew

to be released in drive-in /theatrical premiere across the US and UK July 24th

4G Vision announces the theatrical release of THE BIG UGLY in more than 70 theaters and drive-ins across the US and the UK on Friday, July 24th. Local theaters screening the film include the Mariemont Theater in Cincinnati and Dixie Drive In in Dayton. The film will be available for Video on Demand starting July 31st.

THE BIG UGLY is an action/thriller starring Ron Perlman (Beauty and the Beast), Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange, Halloween) and Vinnie Jones, who also produces.

In the film, written/produced and directed by Scott Wiper (The Condemned), Jones plays Neelyn, a guy who has always been the loyal enforcer for crime boss Harris (McDowell) back in London, taking care of problems and people that disrupt his illicit business.

When Harris strikes a money-laundering arrangement with an old friend – American oilman Preston (Perlman) – they find themselves in the wild hills of West Virginia celebrating the deal.  Overnight, Neelyn’s girlfriend disappears, last seen with Preston’s wayward son Junior.  Lines are drawn between family and friends, but nothing will stop Neelyn from getting answers – and retribution.

Nicholas Braun (HBO’s Succession), Leven Rambin (The Hunger Games), Brandon Sklenar (Vice), Bruce McGill (Lincoln, National Lampoon’s Animal House), Lenora Crichlow (Fast Girls, Deception), David Myers Gregory (Donnybrook) and Joelle Carter (Justified, High Fidelity) also star.  Tarquin Pack and Karri O’Reilly also produce.

The film was shot on location in Kentucky, using more than 150 Ohio and Kentucky-based crew and cast.  Wiper is a Granville, Ohio native, and O’Reilly is based in Dayton, Ohio.

“Releasing a theatrical film during the pandemic is interesting,” says O’Reilly, “but with the number of drive-ins and social distancing compliant theaters in the Midwest, we are hopeful that this kind of release will be a safe way for movie fans to see a brand-new summer release on the big screen.”

"Although not filmed directly in Cincinnati, knowing the film would not have been possible without the talent and workforce cultivated right here in our region is a testament of our work we are incredibly proud of,” said Kristen Schlotman, Film Cincinnati executive director. “We are thrilled that Karri and her team were able to rely on the cast and crew from Greater Cincinnati to make their story come to life.”
