INTERN SPOTLIGHT: Chance Sparks & Xiyanna Kellogg

Chance Sparks attends the University of Cincinnati with a major in digital media and a minor in screenwriting.

He dreams of one-day writing and directing his own films/television shows. He then wants to cast himself in them because, in his words, "nobody is just going to do that on their own."

Sparks interns with Film Cincinnati assisting with marketing efforts. He leans on his graphic design skills to help Film Cincinnati build graphics and social media content.

"Helping out at Film Cincinnati has been hugely beneficial to me. It's given me the opportunity to practice my graphic design skills and has made me get the most out of my Adobe creative cloud subscription," says Sparks.

Spark's creativity has been additive to the organization in more ways than one. An intricate, interactive giveaway to be released in 2022 by ArtsWave was the brainchild of Sparks.

"Interning with Film Cincinnati has exposed me to added layers of the industry, especially within Cincinnati," Sparks adds. "Working within the organization responsible for bringing major motion pictures to Cincinnati is inspiring and eye-opening."

Xiyanna (Z-eye-yawn-na) Kellogg attends the University of Cincinnati studying film and media production with a minor in communications and a certificate in deaf studies. During her internship at Film Cincinnati, she was accepted into UC's marketing master's program. She dreams of one day being a film producer.

Xiyanna works as a digital marketing intern at Film Cincinnati. She assists with the extensive database which houses photographs of potential film locations all across the region. Each location is organized by subject - bookstore, gas station, church, etc., and further broken down into multiple sub-folders, for example, Catholic Church, Baptist Church, Rural church, etc.

Film Cincinnati breaks down a script by location and compiles an electronic lookbook. These compilations show filmmakers what their film could “look like” while shooting in Cincinnati. For every one location, Film Cincinnati tries to give up to ten options. Kellogg has been organizing all of these locations.

“Once I got into the groove of things I wanted to help beyond the scope of what was assigned. I wanted to impact the next set of interns and provide a better resource for their experience. I created a step-by-step how-to guide.” Kellogg adds. “I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to work with Film Cincinnati, students like myself often do not receive a real-world experience in the filming industry. Film Cincinnati made sure that I got the best experience and allowed me to grow as an individual."
