Ambassador Wendy Chamberlin and Filmmaker Michele Ohayon
to speak at Dinner & Documentary Film Screening, June 1
==============================
The Foreign Policy Leadership Council of Greater Cincinnati (FPLC) will host
Ambassador Wendy Chamberlin and filmmaker Michele Ohayon at a reception and
dinner to be held at 5:30 pm, Tuesday June 1, at the Carnegie Arts Center in
Covington.
The evening will focus on events in Pakistan and Afghanistan and our
country#s options for increasing stability and reducing terrorism. Following
the dinner and remarks by the Ambassador, at 7:30 pm the FPLC and Cincinnati
World Cinema (CWC) will present the documentary film SOS: State of Security,
in which Ambassador Chamberlin is featured.
Moderated by CWC director Timothy Swallow, the post-film Q&A will include
Ambassador Chamberlin and Israeli/US filmmaker Michele Ohayon.
"This is a very special event for FPLC members, friends and the general
public," said Joseph Dehner, Chairman of the FPLC of Greater Cincinnati. "We
will have an off-the-record conversation with the Ambassador about
terrorism, Pakistan and Afghanistan - the major foreign policy issue of our
time."
As US Ambassador to Pakistan, Chamberlin played a key role in that country#s
participation in the campaign against al Qaeda after 9/11/01. Her deep
background in counter-terrorism includes Director of Global Affairs and
Counter-Terrorism at the National Security Council (1991-93) and as
Assistant Administrator in the Asia-Near East Bureau for USAID (2002-2004),
she directed civilian reconstruction programs throughout the Middle East and
East Asia. An advisor to US Government officials and broadcast news
commentator, Ambassador Chamberlin has been President of the Middle East
Institute in Washington, D.C. since 2007.
In the documentary film released this year, SOS: State of Security, former
counter-terrorism czar Richard Clarke demystifies the role of government and
how we can take control over its actions. The film looks at the U.S. and the
world, bringing new hopes and roads to avoid future failures. It also brings
to the surface hidden threats that must be addressed immediately, and makes
transparent the role of Government towards the individual. SOS offers
guidelines and solutions from Wendy Chamberlin, James Dobbins (Special Envoy
for Afghanistan), Mark Lowenthal (CIA, Ret. and National Intelligence
Council, Ret.), Bruce Reidel (CIA, Ret. And NSC, Ret.), Mark Lowenthal,
Juliette Kayyem, Rand Beers and others.
Filmmaker Michele Ohayon is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts
and Sciences as well as a member of the Writer's Guild of America (WGA) and
the Producer's Guild of America (PGA). She is a founding board member of
Cinewomen. Her film Color Straight Up received an Oscar Nomination for Best
Documentary Feature and her body of work has accumulated another 11 wins and
6 nominations. Her goal as filmmaker is to tell good, truthful stories about
real people and to make films that open hearts and minds.
The reception will begin at 5:30 pm followed by dinner promptly at 6:00 pm,
with discussion and remarks spanning 6:20-7:20 pm. The cost for the dinner
is $25.00 for FPLC members and $30 for guests.
The film screening will commence at 7:30 pm, immediately followed by Q&A
with Ambassador Chamberlin and director Michele Ohayon. The film is
presented as a community service - without charge for admission, but
reservations are required.
The event is open to the public and individuals may attend the dinner only,
the dinner and the film, or the film only. Dinner attendees will receive
preferred seating for the film.
To reserve a seat for the dinner and film, dinner only or film only, contact
Ms. Kathy Strunk at 513 651 6166 or kstrunk@fbtlaw.com. Deadline for
